Company overview
INFRATEL

This Company was incorporated in the year 2006 as a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel and is a leading global telecommunications company that currently operates in 20 countries across continents such as Asia and Africa. Both Bharti Airtel and Bharti Infratel are a part of the Bharti group that is one of India’s leading business corporations. It also has business interests in sectors such as telecommunications, real estate, retail, and insurance. In January 2008, Bharti Airtel also transferred its towers to Bharti Infratel via a scheme of arrangement that was effective from 31st January 2008.

The company is the provider of tower and the associated infrastructure and is also one of the largest tower infrastructure providers in India. It is based on the number of towers that Bharti Infratel owns and operates and the number of towers owned or operated by Indus. As they are represented by the Bharti Infratel’s 42% equity interest in Indus. The sole purpose of both businesses is to acquire, build, own, and operate towers and associated infrastructure. Both Bharti Infratel and Indus currently provide access to their towers and mainly to wireless telecommunications service providers on a shared basis, and under long–term contracts. The three largest customers of Bharti Infratel’s and Indus’ are Bharti Airtel along with Bharti Hexacom, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. Specifically, these three are leading wireless telecommunications service providers in India by wireless revenue.

The Company has a nationwide presence with its operations in all 22 telecommunications Circles in India, along with Bharti Infratel and Indus operations overlapping in the four telecommunications Circles. On 30th September 2012, Bharti Infratel owned and operated 34,220 towers in about 11 telecommunications Circles, whereas Indus operated 110,561 towers in 15 telecommunications Circles.

To capitalize on several opportunities for tower sharing in the Indian telecommunications market, Bharti Infratel, works with Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. And it has also entered a joint venture by setting up Indus to operate certain of their towers in 15 telecommunications Circles in India.

Also, in March 2014, the Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited or RIL (and the first telecom operator to hold Pan India Unified License) and Bharti Infratel, signed a Master Services Agreement. Under this agreement, the Reliance Jio would utilize the telecom tower infrastructure of Bharti Infratel for launching its services across the whole country.
